‧강의 초록

The field of relativistic heavy ion physics aims to investigate the properties of quark-gluon plasma, where quarks and gluons that make up the hadrons are freed of their strong attraction for one another under extremely high density and temperature. Over the past two decades, experimental results from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN have proven the reproduction of quark-gluon plasma in laboratory conditions, and revealed interesting features of this new state of matter. In this colloquium, an introduction to relativistic heavy ion physics will be given, particularly focusing on the hard probes in heavy-ion collisions.
