‧강의 초록

It is a common perception that, when visually impaired people walk around, they have a high risk of colliding with obstacles, but it is unknown to most public people that some visually impaired people can even drive legally. The key is they need to have the right type of vision loss and use specially designed glasses – bioptic telescope. However, my driving research does not support the belief that the glasses can help with collision avoidance. In my presentation, I will talk about another special, augmented vision glasses designed to help patients with peripheral field loss to avoid collision in walking. My research did not suggest it would be helpful either, due to some limitations related to vision. However, a discovery in the study of augmented vision glasses led to a computer vision method of collision detection, which may eventually help visually impaired people walk and drive safely.
